Dog Dies After Alerting Family of Fire

A family is morning the loss of their dog after the pet alerted the family that the house was on fire early Tuesday morning

Montgomery County Fire Rescue units were called to 2240 Peach Tree Road in the Boyds/Clarksburg area at 1:45 am on Tuesday, according to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer. When units arrived the fire was on the second floor of the Cape Cod style farmhouse.

Smoke alarms in the house were not operating and the family was alerted about the fire by the barking of one of the four family dogs. That dog was found deceased at the scene of the fire by MCFRS personnel, according to Piringer.

Firefighters utilized water tankers to fight the fire since the house is in a rural area which is not served by fire hydrants. The family of three and three surviving dogs have all been displaced by the fire. The house suffered more than $150,000 in damage due the fire, accordign to fire officials.
