UPDATE: Parts of Germantown Suffer Power Outage

In a cruel April Fools joke, traffic lights and televisions alike went black on Wednesday afternoon parts of Germantown as Pepco reported a power outage.

The outage started around 3:00 pm on Wednesday. According to Pepco’s outage map at 4:30 pm, the blackout affected 3,405 customers in the in Germantown from Kingsview Road east to Cinnamon Drive and Dawson Farm Road south to Ritchter Farm Road.

Bob Hainey, a Pepco spokesman said the problem was in the overhead lines feeding the area. Most customers had power restored by 6:00 pm, however some remained in the dark until as late as 9:00 pm.

At 3:31 pm Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle accident at Clopper Road and Germantown Road where the traffic signal was not working properly.

Kingsview Middle School, on Kingsview Road cancelled all in school after school activities, with the exception of the soccer game. Kingsview Principal James D’Andrea told parents via Twitter that students awaiting activities buses would wait in the school’s media center.
