Brush Fire Burns 15 Acres Near Game Preserve Road

March 30, 2015

Montgomery County Fire Rescue units battled a wind-blown brush fire which burned 10 to 15 acres of woodland off Game Preserve Road near the CSX/MARC train tracks on Monday afternoon.

The MCFRS were alerted to the fire at about 1:00 pm and crews found the fire near the train tracks. The fire closed Game Preserve Road for about four hours, as firefighters were forced to set up a water tanker “fill-site”in the parking lot of St. Rose of Lima Church on Clopper Road, because the fire was in a non-hydrant area, according to MFRS Senior Spokesman Pete Piringer.

Eventually, firefighters were able to hook into a hydrant at the north end of Longdraft Road and run hose to Game Preserve Road and along the train tracks.

While the fire did come within 150 yards of homes on Game Preserve Road, no structures damaged and no injuries were reported.

Montgomery County Police also closed Clopper Road to traffic for about three hours and the tracks were closed to train traffic for about two hours.
