Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Clarksburg

Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident which closed Frederick Road for a few hours Wednesday night.

   At approximately 7:42 p.m., 5th District police officers and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian struck in the 22700 block of Frederick Road near Shawnee Lane in Clarksburg. MCFRS personnel transported the victim, an elderly female to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, according to police.

   The victim has been identified as Betty Lou Vest, age 67, of the 22700 block of Frederick Road in Clarksburg.

   The investigation revealed that a 2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI, driven by Carl Martin of Boyds, was traveling northbound on Frederick Road. At the same time, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street although there was no marked crosswalk in the area. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The striking vehicle remained at the scene and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time, police said.

   The accident and subsequent investigation closed down portions of Frederick Road for a few hours Wednesday night.
