Monday Accident Closes Great Seneca Highway

By Kevin O’Rourke

Great Seneca Highway was closed for about an hour and half on Monday afternoon as members of the Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service responded to a two car collision.

The accident happened at about 2:35 pm on Monday at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road in Germantown. Firefighters had to extricate two patients from a heavily damaged, white Dodge Intrepid after it collided with Volkwagon GTI.

The injured were transferred to local hospitals and the road we reopened to traffic once the vehicles were removed at about 3:45 pm.

Because of the timing of the accident, so close to dismissal time for nearby Northwest High School, a large group of students had gathered to watch the MCFRS work and it was believed that the victims were students, however, Northwest Principal Lance Dempsey said the none of the injured were Northwest students.
