Seneca Valley Falls to Magruder, Prepares for Playoff Run

Earlier this season, Seneca Valley had won seven straight games against Division 3A opponents. After running away with the Division 3A regular season title, the Screamin’ Eagles finished their season with two games against tough teams from bigger schools in the more powerful 4A division.

Monday night, Seneca Valley gave a very good 17-3 Magruder Colonels team a run for their money in the 70-60 road loss. The 12-8 Seneca Valley boys team came into the game as the certain top seed in the 3A tournament, but suffered its second straight loss to a Division 4A team. Clarksburg beat Seneca Valley 68-54 last Thursday night.

The Eagles hung tight with Magruder for the first-half and trailed by four at halftime. However, in the third-quarter began to pull away thanks to a 12-point quarter by sophomore Bryan Boehlert, who ended that game with 15 points, including three from beyond the three-point line. The Colonels would score 25-points in third-quarter and hold Seneca to just 11-points.

Seneca had four players in double-digits in the scoring column, but Magruder had four players in doubles, including senior Ronald Hammond who finished with 21-points, including four three-pointers, to lead all scorers.

Seneca Valley’s scoring was led by junior Dejaun Smith and freshman Triston Price, who each had 13 points in the loss. The Eagles’ junior Quentin Twyman had 11 points. Sophomore Brandon Simpson put in 10 points before going down with an ankle injuring early in the third-quarter. He would no
