After winning seven straight games and thundering to the top of the 3A Division, the soaring Seneca Valley Screamin’ Eagles came back to earth last night against a tough Clarksburg team which has two players that were McDonalds All-American nominees.

Seneca Valley, now 12-7, came out flat in a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed twice due to extreme weather.

Clarksburg jumped out to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and Seneca Valley was unable to make up the difference and lost 68-54. This is the second game in which Seneca Valley did not start well against a game opponent. Last Tuesday, Seneca Valley was able to overcome Damascus with a 25 point fourth-quarter performance to clinch the top spot in the 3A Division

However, the Eagles could not complete the comeback against Clarksburg. Seneca Valley came out after halftime with fire but the taller Clarksburg defense was able to fend off the attack. Seneca Valley was led by Brandon Simpson who had 11 points, and Jae Hyn Jang with 9 points.

Clarksburg had three players in double-digits. The Coyotes were led by Andrew Kostecka with 14 points, Ian Krishnan with 13 points, and Dallas Marshall with 12 points. Both teams struggled at the foul line with Seneca shooting 55 percent from the line and Clarksburg shooting 54 percent.

The Eagles have not beaten Clarksburg since 2011. Last night’s lost makes it seven straight on the losing end. Seneca Valley will travel to face the red hot Magruder Colonels on Monday in the regular season finale. Magruder is 16-3 and hasn’t lost since December 29 to River Hill High School. The Eagles are 1-2 against Magruder since 2007.
