By Kevin O’Rourke

The National Weather Service has issued a number of weather advisories for the Germantown area for tonight and through the weekend, including a High Wind Warning and Wind Chill Warning.

The NWS has issued a High Wind Warning for Germantown beginning at 6:00 pm this evening, Feb. 14 and running through 2:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 15. Northwest winds will rapidly increase behind a strong cold front this evening and continue through midday on Sunday. Winds will be 30-mph to 40-mph with gusts to 60 mph.

As a result of these winds combined with the low temperatures, the NWS has issued a Wind Chill Warning for the Germantown area from midnight tonight until noon on Sunday. Temperatures in the teens will be dropping into the single digits will result in wind chills as low as 20 to 25 below zero.

The very high winds and cold temps will make for dangerous wind chills that could quickly cause hypothermia and frostbite on exposed skin.
