The National Weather Service has issued a number of weather advisories for the Germantown area for tonight and through the weekend, including a High Wind Warning and Wind Chill Warning.

The NWS has issued a High Wind Warning for Germantown beginning at 6:00 pm this evening, Feb. 14 and running through 2:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 15. Northwest winds will rapidly increase behind a strong cold front this evening and continue through midday on Sunday. Winds will be 30-mph to 40-mph with gusts to 60 mph.

The very high winds and cold temps will make for dangerous wind chills that could quickly cause hypothermia and frostbite on exposed skin.

The high winds can also cause downed trees and powerlines resulting in power outages, minor structural damage will also be possible. Driving high profile vehicles in these conditions will be dangerous, according to the National Weather Service.

The Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service suggests residents make sure all cell phones and portable devices are fully charged in case of power outages.

Any wet or slushy roads will rapidly freeze late this afternoon and evening. This may cause hazardous traveling conditions.”
