Down Wires Closes Germantown Road South of Riffle Ford Road

By Kevin O’Rourke
What one Maryland State Highway Administration described as being
a “20 minute job” turned into two or three hour closure of Germantown Road between Riffle Ford Road and Black Rock Road on Thursday morning.
It started about 6:00 am when reports of downed wires in the area closed the road. According to the SHA worker at the scene, the wires were cable wires and when a utility worker attempted to reconnect the wire on a pole near Riffle Ford Road, it created a sparking and fire situation at another pole closer to Black Rock Road.
It was that second pole lead to Germantown Road being closed for a longer amount of time. The road remained closed at 9:00 am, and was expected to remain closed for a few more hours while crews worked to repair the wires and the poles.
