Victoria Vox and Unified Jazz Ensemble at Black Rock


Singer-songwriter Victoria Vox will bring her unique ukulele skills to The Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown as she joins the Unified Jazz Ensemble for an evening of standards and original compositions on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The Unified Jazz Ensemble, based in Annapolis, is dedicated to bringing the best of jazz to audiences of all ages. The group was founded in 1992, and has performed across the United States and internationally.

Vox has performed all over the globe for the last ten years. Her endearing vocals and seemingly simple, but rather smart songs have been played on NPR, featured on A&E television shows, won her first place at the International Acoustic Music Awards, six Wammie awards, the “Vox Pop” award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year in the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards, and landed her a segment on the Jay Leno Show.

The show is set for an 8:00 pm start. Tickets are $22 and are available at Black Rock or online.

Next Saturday, Jan. 31, Black Rock will host a night of bluegrass and country as The Seldom Scene will make an appearance beginning at 8:00 pm. Over 40 years since they began playing together at weekly jam sessions in a Bethesda basement, The Seldom Scene have become one of the single greatest contributors to the progression of bluegrass while setting a new standard and attracting new audiences to the genre. Legends in the DC-area, their performances include bluegrass versions of country music, rock, and even classical pop.

The Seldom Scene have performed at the White House many times and continue to tour year-round. The Seldom Scene are founding member Ben Eldridge (banjo), Lou Reid (mandolin/vocals), Dudley Connell (guitar/vocals), Ronnie Simpkins (bass/vocals), and Fred Travers (dobro/vocals).Tickets are $36.
