Germantown Resident Charge in Robbery and Pepper Spray Attack in New Jersey

January 13, 2015

A Germantown woman was arrested in New Jersey in connection with an array of crimes in connection with the robbery of a Victoria Secret store in the Bridgewater Commons Mall.

Crystal Morrison, of Germantown, along with Quatavia Ashburn, 23, and Kevin Garner, 55, both of Brooklyn, NY are accused of stealing $799.50 worth of merchandise from Victoria Secret and attempting to evade security by pepper-spraying two guards, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident started around 4:30 pm on Friday, Jan. 9 at the upscale mall in Bridgewater, NJ when Morrison and Ashburn were stopped by security inside the mall. The prosecutor’s office said Morrison sprayed the guards with pepper and then she and Ashburn fled the mall.

At the same time, Garner was also approached by a security guard. Garner pushed the security guard the hood of car and had to be restrained by other security officers until Bridgewater police arrived, according the prosecutor’s office.

Ashburn and Morrison left the mall and fled to a nearby hotel. When approached by hotel security, Morrison again used the pepper-spray and shot it at another security guard. Eventually, both Ashburn and Morrison were apprehended by police, according to the prosecutor’s office.

All three have been charged with robbery, possession of weapon and shoplifting and taken to the Somerset County jail. Bail was set at $100,000 cash for Garner and Morrison, and $50,000 cash for Ashburn.
