MCPS Schools Are Now Closed Due to Snow
Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed today, January 6, due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings also are canceled.
After initiailly announcing that schools would open on two-hour delay, MCPS had decided that conditions from this storm have deterioritated to the point where closing schools was the safer option.
County Councilmember and Germantown resident Craig Rice tweeted, "Kudos to MCPS to close schools today. Many roads in Upcounty, that are State roads, have yet to be plowed/treated. Children's safety is key."
Morning prekindergarten, morning half-day Head Start, other morning half-day programs and field trips are canceled.
MCPS administrative offices are open on time and day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled.
Montgomery County College has also cancelled all classed today due to hazardous weather conditions.
Montgomery County Recreation is reporting that community and aquatic centers will open on time, however aquatic programs before 9:30 am are canceled, and Tiny Tots classes before noon are canceled.
MC Recreation seniors transportation and nutrition programs are canceled for today, senior centers are are also closed today due the weather.
