The National Weather Service has issued and extended a Winter Weather Advisory for the northern Montgomery County area, including Germantown, until 11:00 am.

This means that the area can expect sleet and freezing rain with little accumulations. “Sleet and freezing rain will begin early this morning,” said the National Weather Service advisory. “Precipitation will change to all freezing rain by mid-morning before transitioning to rain as temperatures rise above freezing.”

The NWS forecasts that ice accumulations on roadways and sidewalks will result in hazardous conditions, and this his already proven true as Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service is reporting numerous collisions around the Germantown area, already this morning.

In Clarksburg, in the 12900 block of Grand Elm Street, a collision forced a vehicle into a structure. MCFRS units extricated a patient who had non-life threatening injuries. And a building inspector was called to the scene to determine structural impacts of the collision.

Another collision occurred at Brink Road and Wightman Road. MCFRS also reported an overturned vehicle as a result of collision at North Frederick Road and Game Preserve Road, and another collision at Brink Road and Blunt Road.
