Seneca Valley High School was the site of a varsity basketball double-header which saw the Seneca Valley boys prevail and the girls fall to Watkins Mill.
Since dropping its first four games, the Seneca Valley boys basketball team is 2-0 in the division and riding a two game streak after defeating Watkins Mill 67-51 on Friday night.
The Eagle men came into Friday’s game against 2-3 Watkins Mill team, after defeating Poolesville 56-45 on Wednesday night.
For the second game in a row the Screaming Eagles were paced by junior forward Quentin Twyman with 17 points and seven rebounds Twyman was 5-for-8 from the foul line. He had 15 points in Wednesday’s win at Poolesville.
After a first quarter where the teams traded buckets, Seneca began to pull away in the second quarter, and went into half leading 32-25. The Screaming Eagles wouldn’t look back. Seneca Valley got another double-double from junior forward Will Craig, with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Craig was followed closely by freshman guard Triston Price who dropped 10 points and was a perfect 4-4 from the line. Seneca hit 11 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.
Seneca Valley will take their 4-2 record and travel to winless Northwood on Monday in hopes of extending their division winning streak to three, before a meeting with Einstein in the New Year.
The Seneca Valley girls did not have as much success against Watkins Mill in the second half of the varsity double-header on Friday.
The 1-5 Lady Eagles lost to 3-2 Watkins Mill, 63-16. The Seneca girls were unable to handle the Wolverines senior guard Dominique Walker who lead Watkins Mill in scoring until sitting out most of the fourth quarter.
Seneca Valley Girls Head Coach Jennifer Hoffman knew it would difficult to replace the six seniors the team lost to graduation last Spring. The team got good ball handling from senior Alanah Roy who was tasked with controlling the ball on offense, against a quick and swarming Watkins Mill defense.
The ladies will play 0-4 Northwood on Monday in hopes of getting their second win this season and first win in the division.
