December 16, 2014

Montgomery County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is offering Winter 2015 CERT Enhanced Training starting on Wed. Jan. 7. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday mornings from 9:00 pm to 1:00 pm in Gaithersburg, the address of the classes will be sent to registrants via email. The training sessions will end with a final practice exercise on Saturday, Feb. 7.

There are a limited number of seats available and Montgomery CERT cannot guarantee a place, even if you have completed the registration form. Participants will be notified within 48 hours if accepted into the class, if Montgomery CERT requires more information or if you have been added to a wait list due to the class reaching capacity. All Montgomery County residents over 18 years are eligible to participate. Exceptions can be made for people who work, but do not live, in Montgomery County. Contact the Website or email,  CERT Registrar for more information.

Since August 2013, close to 200 CERT members have volunteered for 71 various events ranging from operations; training; outreach; and general meetings. Over 3,600 volunteer hours have been logged during this timeframe. These numbers include CERT members’ contributions towards nine events – eight snow storms and one EF-0 tornado that impacted the County in June 2013. In September 2013, Montgomery County CERT received national recognition for Outstanding CERT Initiatives.
