Singer and Joaquin Names Scholar Athletes

Seneca Valley is honoring two athletes, Amanda Singer and Manasseh Joaquin, as Scholar Athletes of the Month for September.

Amanda Singer is an honor roll senior who is also captain of the girls’ varsity soccer team, as well as being varsity cheerleader. “She leads by example,” said Seneca Valley Athletic Director Jesse Irvin.

“She is a great role model for the other student athletes. She is a dedicated, hardworking student and player, and recently organized the very successful breast cancer awareness fundraiser for the soccer team.” Irvin called Singer a “triple threat” athlete because she participates in soccer, lacrosse and cheerleading.

Freshman, Manasseh Joaquin is a two-way starter on the Screaming Eagle junior varsity football team, who has been called up to dress with the varsity. “Manasseh has maintained a 3.47 GPA while attending practices for varsity and junior varsity football,” said Irvin.

As freshman, Joaquin is often dressed for both games. He is praised by his coaches for his excellent football ability and recognized for his work ethic on the field and in the classroom and he never makes excuses pertaining to his school workload or the strains of two football practices. “He is very respectful to his coaches, teammates and staff within the building,” said Irvin. “Manasseh brings that extra level of respect, ability, care and academics to the highest level.”

Seneca Valley’s Scholar Athlete of the Month is chosen from nominations from the Seneca Valley coaching staff to the athletic director.
