Eagles Attack Early in Win Over Watkins Mill
By Kevin O’Rourke
Seneca Valley and Watkins Mill got down and dirty in the mud on Thursday night. A late afternoon rain storm made the field muddy, slippery mess and that seemed to suit the Screaming Eagles just fine as they were able to jump out to an early lead and hold it until the final whistle.
Seneca Valley got the scoring started with a 46 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Zack Robinson to senior receiver Andrew Magnuson to put the Eagles up 7-0 with 7:55 remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles would score again just two minutes and 13 seconds later when Adrian Feliz-Platt would score from the one yard line to extend the Seneca Valley lead to 14-0 with 5:42 left in the first quarter.
Zack Robinson would later connect with Donovan Beckett-Simms on a six yard touchdown pass to give Seneca Valley a 21-0 lead at half-time.
The Seneca Valley defense would shut down the Wolverines offense with three interceptions in the game, two in the first half by Xavier Robeson and Zae Wright. A third interception by Brendan Ashby, would end a promising Watkins Mill drive at the four-yard line. Ashby would return the intercepted pass from Markel Grant from inside the four yard-line to the Seneca Valley 44 yard line.
The Eagles would score early in the third. Two runs by Feliz-Platt and Zack Robinson pass to Antonio Fox would set up a six yard power run up the middle by Darius Golston to put Seneca Valley up 28-0 with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Watkins Mill would get on the scoreboard with a 56 yard pass from Markel Grant to Brian McNeary with 4:37 left in the third quarter.
