MoCo Recreation Winter Basketball Registration is Open

Registration is open for Montgomery County Recreation Winter Basketball Season. The County has four programs, an Instructional Basketball program for grades K to 2, and the Youth Basketball program for Grades 3-8, Rising Star League for Grades 5-8, and the High School Rec Basketball.

   The Instructional Basketball program is $80 for residents and $95 for non-Montgomery County residents, it includes eight one-hour sessions, a t-shirt, and individual participant awards. Registration will close on Nov. 30. The session will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  Teams will practice for four weeks and play game the last four weeks. The basket height is lowered to eight-feet where possible.

   The Youth Basketball for Grades 3-8 is $95 for residents and $100 for non-residents, it includes one-hour per week of practice and eight games, a t-shirt, and individual participant awards. Registration will close Nov. 7. Coach may submit a team roster consisting of eight to 12 players, but each player must complete an individual registration form. Practice will begin the week of Dec. 1, and practice times and locations are to be determined. Teams may have no more than three players on the roster who participate in any select team (AAU, high school JV, varsity, or Rising Star). MCPS middle school basketball players are exempt. Players or team may only play-up one grade. Girls are allowed to play on boys teams and vice versa. Germantown residents requiring more information should contact Derrick Felton at 240-777-6810.

   The High School Recreational League is $95 for residents and $100 for non-residents, it includes one-hour per week of practice and eight games, a t-shirt, and individual participant awards. Registration will close Nov. 7. Coach may submit a team roster consisting of eight to 12 players, but each player must complete an individual registration form. Practice will begin the week of Dec. 1, and practice times and locations are to be determined. Players are assigned to teams based on grade not age, teams will play in the grade level of their oldest player. Players may play-up one grade level, but not down. Teams may have no more than three players on the roster who participate in any select team MCPS high school basketball players are exempt. Girls are allowed to play on boys teams and vice versa.    The Rising Star League is $100 for residents and $115 for non-residents, it includes one-hour per week of practice and eight games, a t-shirt, and individual participant awards and two IAABO officials per game. Registration will close Dec. 5. Players must be on a pre-formed team with a coach in order to register. This league does not accept individual “free agent” players.  Coaches may submit a team roster, but each player must complete an individual registration form. Fourth grade students can participate in the Fifth Grade league. Teams will play 10 games in an eight week season. For more information contact Kristofor Sewer at 240-777-6870.
