Northwest Grad Named Big-10 Defensive Player of Week

October 7, 2014

Britt Eckerstrom, of Germantown, a redshirt junior at Penn State University has been named a Big Ten Women’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in wins against Minnesota and No. 13 Wisconsin, according to Penn State University.

Eckerstrom, a 2010 graduate of Northwest High School, recorded clean sheets in both of No. 7 Penn State's games this weekend. In a 2-0 win at Wisconsin, she made four saves to keep the Badgers off the board. In addition, Eckerstrom played all 90 minutes of the Nittany Lions' 1-0 victory over Minnesota. The wins extended Penn State's perfect Big Ten record to 7-0.

Eckerstrom has not allowed a goal in her last 200 minutes on the pitch. A major part of Penn State's outstanding defense this season, Penn State has only allowed more than one goal in one match this season.

While at Northwest, she was a member of the track and field team, where she was a two-time All-American during the 2010 track season, and earned six Maryland state track titles in indoor and outdoor track. She was a member and team captain of FC Frederick from 2004-2010, and reached the Maryland State Cup finals in 2010. Eckerstrom was a member of the U.S. Womens National Soccer U-17 Team in 2009.
