Screaming Eagles Bomb Barons
By Kevin O’Rourke
Seneca Valley hoped to use this week’s game against the Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School Barons to get their season back on course, after being blown off course by Northwest last week.
As has been the case in every game this season, the Screaming Eagles offense got off to a slow start with the offense scoring only one touchdown in the first half, but found the groove in the second half to beat the Barons 42-6.
The scoring started with 6:46 left in the first quarter, Seneca Valley’s Donovan Beckett-Simms took a BCC punt 60 yards for to pay dirt, after a Brenden Ashby laid a block on B-CC’s Landford Price to set Beckett-Simms down the field to score. Andrew Magnuson’s kick put Seneca Valley up 7-0.
However, the Barons were not out, on the ensuing drive B-CC’s quarterback Ryan Dimmick threw to Sam Robinson who scampers 80 yards to get the home team on the board. The extra point failed. Seneca Valley held a 7-6 lead.
On the next drive, the Screaming Eagles showed that they had too had some air power as Zack Robinson hit Andrew Magnuson with a 28 yard touchdown pass with 2:27 left in the first quarter. Magnuson tacked on the extra point.
The second quarter saw both teams trade possessions, and Seneca Valley was able to step in front of another B-CC pass, but were unable to convert and the Screaming Eagles took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
The third quarter would provide the Screaming Eagles with a glorious minute and half as they would score 21 points in less than minutes, thanks to big play on offense, defense and special teams.
Seneca Valley scored with 3:49 left in the third quarter on a 46 yard run by Adrian Feliz-Platt. Magnuson added the extra point, Eagles lead 21-6. It is worth noting that this is the second week in a row that Feliz-Platt, who has six touchdowns this season, did not play in the first quarter.
Less than 30 seconds later Jamal Ofori would step in front of another Ryan Dimmik pass and take it back for touchdown putting the Screaming Eagles up 28-6. Magnuson converted the extra point.
Seneca Valley would be back in the end zone a minute later, after a fumble recovery on the ensuring kick off lead to Zack Robinson running it in to make it 35-6 with 2:28 left in the third quarter.
Darius Golston would complete the scoring with a 24-yard run from scrimmage. Magnuson converted the kick to complete the scoring, 42-6 Seneca Valley.
If the football gods and schedule makers gave Seneca Valley “a get well game” this week, they are not showing any mercy next week as the Screaming Eagles will host the Sherwood High School Warriors next Thursday. The Warriors are 4-0 and are coming off a 44-27 beating of Richard Montgomery on Friday night. Sherwood has wins over Gaithersburg, Blair and Springbrook.
