The Black Rock Center for the Arts will get funny on Saturday as District Comedy brings its urban edginess back to Germantown.
District Comedy is comedians Alexx Starr, Jeremy Hall, Jessica Brodkin and headliner, Brandon Broady. The DC-based group promises a night of local humor, beer and wine, as the dance theatre will be set up with special Café club seating. Doors open at 8:00 pm, show begins at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $18 and are available at Black Rock or online.
Next Friday, Oct. 3, Black Rock will host a Salsa and Bachata Dance Party beginning at 7:30 pm. Hit the floor in a 45-minute dance lesson followed by a dance party. What better chance to learn new moves, get exercise and listen to live music while you socialize and have fun. Black Rock has expanded its Dance Party series to include swing and Latin Dance on a regular monthly schedule this Fall. No need for a partner. Individuals and couples of all ages welcome. Tickets are $18.
Next Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct 5. Black Rock Center welcomes Spencers: Theatre of Illusion. This not your run-of-the-mill magic show, and the Spencers are not your typical magicians. They carry a lot of equipment in their 65-foot customized truck and trailer, but a rabbit and a top hat are not in the inventory.
This exciting production is a unique fusion of magic and illusion, humor and mystery, and persona and personality. By blending the theatrical elements of a Broadway-style production with the high energy of a rock concert, the Spencers take their audience on a journey to the brink of impossibility and back again. Audience members don’t simply watch the show; they are invited to participate in the magic. Using magic much like a storyteller uses words; this family-friendly production runs the gamut of emotions.
The Saturday, Oct. 4 show has a 7:30 pm start time and tickets are $26. The Sunday show is a special one-hour family show that will begin at 3:00 pm and tickets are $22. Tickets are available at the Black Rock box office or online.
