Senior Olympic Swimming Comes to Germantown

September 19, 2014

Germantown will play host to the Maryland Senior Olympic Swimming Qualifying competition this weekend, as participants aged 50 and above will compete at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.

The events will include freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and individual medley at varying distances. Events will begin at 9 am and run through the day in age divisions separated by five years. The top three finishers in each event win medals.

This is a qualifying year for the National Senior Games, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, next summer in 2015. Those individuals who place in the top four in each age group will earn a place on the Maryland squad that will represent the state in Minnesota.

The National Senior Games are held every other year at different sites around the nation. In 2013, the games were in Houston, Texas.

For more information, call 410-396-2920 or visit the Maryland Senior Olympics website.
