This Sunday Germantown residents will have the opportunity to check out the the new Holy Cross Germantown Hospital before they might have to check-in when the hospital begins accepting patients next month.

Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, which is scheduled to open in October, will have a full-service emergency department for seriously ill or injured patients and for those with less serious illness or injury. An adjacent observation unit will be available for patients who require additional monitoring.

In an effort to introduce the new facility to Gremantown area residents, the hospital is hosting a Community Open House from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm that Sunday, Sept. 21.

The event will include self-guided tours of the new six-story hospital, with employees stationed in key areas to engage with guests, as well as, health screenings offered by Community Health, and free Holy Cross Germantown Hospital tote bags.

"This is a casual, family-friendly, come-at-your-convenience event,” said Yolanda Gaskins, a spokesperson from Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. “We wanted to offer the community an opportunity to meet some of the staff, participate in health screenings and get familiar with the first new hospital in the county in more than 35 years."

The event will also include family friendly activities for children such as, a scavenger hunt, as well as light snacks and entertainment for local musicians.

According to Gaskins, this brand new facility will be staffed by a team of highly skilled health care professionals who will provide inpatient services, convenient outpatient care and community health programs to adults and children from throughout the region.

All patient rooms in the new hospital will be private and will allow round the clock visiting hours, seven days a week.

The new hospital will feature a full scope of medical services, including special units for cancer care and dialysis services, a 15-bed Intensive Care Unit, and two 30-bed units for all non-intensive care patients equipped with advanced patient monitoring capabilities and a behavioral health unit for psychiatric care.

Surgical services will feature a pre-surgery testing department, pre- and post-operative area and post-anesthesia care unit.
