Jags Light Up Rockets

By Kevin O’Rourke

Northwest Head Coach Michael Nuebeiser was hoping his team could eliminate some mistakes in this week’s road game against the Richard Montgomery Rockets. By the end of the first quarter the Rockets were hoping were hoping the Jaguars would make a few.

The Jags jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and it felt like they had run four offensive plays. The scoring started much like last week’s win, with a 20-yard pass from Mark Pierce (11) pass to Jamar Wilson (1). Running back E.J. Lee (23) joined the scoring with a 30-plus yard touchdown run. A second 20-yard pass from Piece to senior wide receiver Aaron Beidleman (10) grounded the Rockets before they could get to the launching pad.

The Jaguars defense stifled the Rocket offense all game, busting through the offensive line an creating havoc in the Rocket’s backfield. Junior corner back Martin Foray (2) had two sacks in the first half.

The Rockets offense was swarmed by the defending state champion’s defense, and started the second quarter with back-to-back sacks by senior defensive tackle T.J. Patterson (50) and senior linebacker Brendan Thompson (8). The sacks killed the Rockets drive and forced a punt.

Northwest’s junior quarterback Mark Pierce lead the Jags down the field on the ensuing drive. A long run by Lee, and a scrambling Pierce pass moved the ball to the Rockets 10 yard line. Pierce capped the drive with his feet running a quarterback sneak into the endzone to give the Jags a 28-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Jaguars special teams created problems for the Rockets. The Jaguars posted quick seven points as senior Kwab Asamoah (5) took the second half kickoff 90 yards to pay dirt and extend the Jaguars lead to 35-0.

After a Richard Montgomery three-and-out, Jamar Willson took the punt 70 yards to further pad the Jaguars lead, 42-0. Senior running back Kevin Proctor (25) ended the Rockets misery with a two-yard touchdown run to put the Jags up 49-0.

The Jaguars have begun the 2014 campaign 2-0, and have outscored their opponents 92-0. Next week the champs are on the road again and will roll into The Nest to take on the 2-0 Seneca Valley Screaming Eagles in the Battle of Germantown. Seneca Valley had a big, 36- 14 home win on Friday, scoring 36 unanswered points against the Rockville High School Rams.
