Police Capture Catherine Hoggle, Children Still Missing

By Kevin O’Rourke

Montgomery County Police have located Catherine Hoggle, the diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic mother, who had been eluding police since Monday, less than two blocks from where she disappeared. But there her children are not with her. Jacob and Sarah Hoggle are still missing and have been missing since Sunday and Monday.

At 11:18 pm on Friday night, MCPD received an emergency 911 call from a woman who said her boyfriend had just spoken to Catherine Hoggle outside the Pinnacle Complex at the corner of Crystal Rock Drive and Century Boulevard.

Officers quickly responded to the area and took the 27-year old mother into custody. She was then transported to Police Headquarters for questioning. Earlier this week, MCPD obtained a warrant for her arrest on child neglect charges, based on her leaving her children, Jacob, 2, and Sarah, 3, unattended for more than 72 hours.

Hoggle was found less than 1,000 feet from where she gave the father of her children the slip on Monday and, less than 500 feet from District 5 police headquarters in Germantown.

At the scene, Lieutenant James Brown, deputy commander with the Montgomery County Police Department said, “She was awake and walked out on her own.” He said the was no sign of the children in the area.

A heavy police presence remained at the apartment complex at 19900 Crystal Rock Drive. Investigators could be seen going in and out of the hallway along with bloodhound tracking dogs.

“The media and the public has been great in getting the word out and the citizens have been great. It is because of the citizens that we were able to get her tonight,” said Brown.

The MCPD remains concerned for the children’s health and welfare and ask that residents still call 911 with any information and tips about this case. Earlier Friday morning police said, "There have been no confirmed sightings of the children since they were reported missing by their father on Monday, Sept. 8.”
