Germantown Library Announces September Events

The Germantown Branch of the Montgomery County Public Library will host a number of events in September, ranging from learning to plant cultivate plants to cultivating a seed for reading success.

   The library will offer a new program on the ins and outs of using the library’s online resources on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm at the upper level. The program will cover how to renew library materials, set up email notifications, find practice test preparation materials, and create an eResume.

   A Beginning Sign Language course will be offered on Sundays beginning Sept. 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The five session class requires online registration which will open on Sept. 10. The course is co-sponsored by MCAHIC.

   The library will host an African American Book Club on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 pm. While on the first Tuesday of each month the library will host the Novel Views Book Discussion from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

   The English Conversation Club will meet to practice speaking English in a friendly setting on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:30 am to 12 noon, and on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

   The Teen Chess Club will continue to meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. All levels or player are welcome, practice an open and friendly environment. Chess boards are provided, but players are encouraged to bring their own board, as this is a first come, first serve event.

   Teens interested in writing can join the Teen Writer’s Club on Monday, Sept. 22 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The club will meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Share your interest in writing and learn how to improve writing fiction, short stories, and non-fiction. Learn techniques, get feedback and meet authors. This club is limited to teens age 13 to 18 and is sponsored by the Maryland Writer’s Association.

   Youths interested in getting a feel for Wall Street can join the Stock Market for Teen Investors on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Learn the ins and outs of the stock market from the a representative of TD Bank. Interested teens should register online beginning Sept. 4.

   Community Events:

   The Master Gardeners Plant Clinic will continue on each Wednesday in September at 6:15 pm.

   The Bloodmobile will be at the Germantown Library on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10:00 am to 2 pm.

   The Friends of the Library Germantown Chapter will hold its booksale on the second Saturday of each month, next month it will be Sept. 13, from 10 am to 1 pm at the library.
