Black Rock to Host Open House on Saturday

Get a taste of Black Rock Center For the Art’s artistic and educational programs throughout the year including high quality performances, arts classes, works of art in the gallery and more at the  Black Rock Open House this Saturday, Aug. 23 from  10 am to 1 pm.

   The event will include a Discover Black Rock Scavenger Hunt, tours of the center, arts and craft activities and a cupcake reception to kick off the 2014/2015 season of performances.

   There will music from the kids rock band Rolie Polie Guacamole at the Mainstage at 11:45 am.

   There is no need to reserve, just show up and sample a number of classes including: Puppet making for all ages from 10 am to 10:45 am; Ballet for 3-7 year-olds from 10:00 am to 11:15 am; Improv and Theatre Games for ages 6-10 from 10:15 am to 11:15 am; Still Life Painting for all ages from 10:00 am to 12 noon; Piano for ages 5 to 10 from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm; Cartooning for ages 8-16 from 11:15 am to 12 noon; Artist Talks for all ages from 11:30 am  to 12:45 pm; and Guitar for ages 9 to adult from 12 noon to 12:45 pm.

   The Black Rock Center is located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown.

   The Black Rock Center’s performance season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 20 with Deanna Bogart. The 8:00 pm show will feature the award-winning multi-instrumentalist, recognized for her dazzling keyboards, soulful saxophone, smoky vocals and cut-above songwriting, Deanna Bogart combines the best of boogie-woogie, contemporary blues, country and jazz into a splendid blend she calls “blusion.”  Tickets for the Sept. 20 performace are available to purchase here.
