Cyclist Robbed at Gunpoint on Waring Station Road
A 51-year-old cyclist was robbed at gunpoint while riding on Waring Station Road near Middlebrook Road shortly after 6:20 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Montgomery County Police said officers from the 5th District- Community Action Team have arrested a 15-year-old male from Rockville for the armed robbery.
MCPD said, the juvenile suspect, who had been hiding behind trees, jumped in front of the victim and stood on the sidewalk. The suspect was then joined by three black male suspects. While one suspect held onto the victim’s bicycle handlebars, the 15-year-old suspect (who has been arrested), produced a handgun from under his shirt and pressed it into the victim’s side. The victim was able to provide a description of the 15-year-old suspect and officers began to look for him, according to MCPD. Officers located the suspect walking in the area of Stoney Bottom Lane and Waring Station Road and attempted to stop him. The suspect fled from the officers but was apprehended after a foot pursuit through a wooded area and underground drainage system. The gun was not located.
The juvenile was charged with armed robbery and is currently in the custody of the Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Center in Rockville.
The three other suspects have not been identified. Anyone with information about this armed robbery or the suspects involved is asked to call the 5th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6237.
