Tomorrow is National Night Out in Germantown
Tomorrow night, Tuesday, Aug. 5 is National Night Out, a nationwide event designed to generate neighborhood support and participation in crime prevention efforts and to enhance police and community relations.
Germantown will play host to one National Night Out event at Capt. J. Daly Elementary School at 20301 Brandermill Drive from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. All Germantown neighborhoods are encouraged to participate.
National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, has traditionally included display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils. Many communities celebrate with a variety of events to help neighbors get to know one another and to build community spirit. This is the 31st year of National Night Out observances that demonstrate a community’s commitment to keep their neighborhood free from crime.
In 2013, National Night Out involved over 37.8 million people in 16,242 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2014 is expected to be the largest ever, according to organizers at the National Association of Town Watch.
National Project Coordinator, Matt Peskin said, “This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. On NNO, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us and “give crime a going away party”.
